What about preparing a delicious meal?

Evil turkey:
Ingredients

* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 (12 ounce) jar roasted red peppers, drained and chopped
* 1 cup whiskey
* 1/2 cup minced garlic
* 1 (22 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
* 1 (7 ounce) can chipotle chilies in adobo sauce
* roasting bag for a large turkey

Directions

1. Preheat an oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
2. Stir together the onion, roasted red peppers, whiskey, and garlic and place this mixture inside the cavity of the bird. Mince chipotle peppers in a food processor until about the consistency of spaghetti sauce. Rub half of the chipotles on the outside of the turkey, and place the rest inside the bird cavity. Place turkey in a roasting bag; close the bag according to the bag directions, and place onto a roasting pan.
3. Bake the turkey in the preheated oven until no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, about 3 1/2 hours. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone should read 180 degrees F (82 degrees C). Remove the turkey from the oven, and allow to rest in a warm area 10 to 15 minutes before slicing.

Cod fillets

Ingredients

* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 onion, thinly sliced
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
* 1/2 cup black olives, pitted and sliced
* 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
* 1/2 cup dry white wine
* 1 pound cod fillets

Directions

1. In a large frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. Saute onions and garlic in olive oil until softened.
2. Stir in tomatoes, olives, parsley, and wine. Simmer for 5 minutes.
3. Place fillets in sauce. Simmer for about 5 more minutes, or until fish turns white.

Dessert: Apple Pie

Ingredients

* 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
* 1/2 cup unsalted butter
* 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
* 1/4 cup water
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
* 8 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
2. Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off.
3. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.

Sustainable development?

The United Nations Development Programme’s recently published Human Development Report, which says that its ‘Human Development Index’ (based on income, life expectancy and education) has increased in almost every country in the world in the last twenty years, but also that the threat of climate change jeopardises this progress. Think about the following questions:
1. What factors do you think determine a country’s level of ‘development’?
2. In what ways, if any, would you say development is different from ‘quality of life’ (how comfortable or enjoyable someone's life is)?
3. In which countries do you imagine quality of life is highest, and why?

Here you find a text with two activities and a glossary with some expressions that might be new for you. You will find the answers below, but don't cheat ;)

Esperanto, Globbish or English?

11,500 words are enough to make business in English!
Eurospeak emerged as a variation of English language with special terminology and phrases referred to the context of the European Union. Verbs like "market" instead of "import and export" appeared within a new framework of business and free movement of goods in the EU.
Now, the globalisation of English language, has given birth to what sociologues call globbish, (from global and English). 1,500 words are enough for dealing with business and daily situations with this simplified English. English language may loose richness but gains effectiveness.
We may consider Globbish as a variety of English, but some say that it is more a tool than a real language.
Here is an article from the Herald Tribune about this. Have a look at this video as well!!! What is your opinion?

Waste, and how we choose to handle it, affects our world's environment -- that's OUR environment, everything that surrounds us including the air, water, land, plants, and man-made things. And since by now you probably know that you need a healthy environment for your own health and happiness, you can understand why effective waste management is so important to YOU and everyone else. The waste we create has to be carefully controlled to be sure that it does not harm your environment and your health.

So, REDUCE, REUSE, REPAIR AND RECYCLE

England's Day: St. George's Day

St. George is the patron saint of England. His emblem, a red cross on a white background, is the flag of England, and part of the British flag.
One of the best-known stories about Saint George is his fight with a dragon. But it is highly unlikely that he ever fought a dragon. Despite this, St George is known throughout the world as the dragon-slaying patron saint of England.

You can read more about St Georege's Day here. Moreover, for sure you would like to check your knowledge about England... how many points do you get??? Don't look at the key before doing the activity!!!

UK Elections 2010

Britain's long-anticipated national election will take place on May 6th, kicking off an intense 30-day battle between two major parties (David Cameron's Conservatives and Gordon Brown's governing Labour) with sharply different plans to fix the U.K's battered economy and giant deficit.

But after Britain's first-ever televised debate, one man emerged as a surprise contender to be the next incumbent at 10 Downing Street. This person is the Liberal Democrats' Nick Clegg.

Here you can find the debate, so watch it to form your own opinion!!!
