One of the reasons why we decided to celebrate our wedding at the end of May was because the weather is usually nice; probably it would be a good temperature in Granada at that date. Moreover we had booked the wedding reception in a beautiful style Arabic garden with plants, irrigation ditch, fountains and pool. That day dawned sunny but as the hours passed there were more clouds in the sky, just a few hours before the celebration, thunders and lightings unleashed a big storm. I just going to tell some events to describe that day. There were not enough taxis available in the city, the guests arrived completely socked, the reception had to be moved inside the hotel and the photographs could not be there. The best was that we had an authentic Jacuzzi in our bridal suite balcony. I had never seen so much rain in my whole life. It was a flood. Luis Fernando San José Juste.
Yesterday it was unbelievable. Although we had been warned it was going to be a wet week, no one expected to have freezing days with temperatures below zero and pouring rain. I felt angry and annoyed, because it was very strange to suffer a period of cold weather and rain in Almería, so I didn't know what to do and I stayed at home everyday.
This week in Huercal Overa, the weather has been unpleasant. From Monday until Saturday the weather was changeable. First, the weather was wet, it was freezing and with short periods of rain. In these casesI love staying at home lying on the sofa watching TV or playing with my children. However we went to school and we did different activities like yudo or learning English . So we nearly got a cold. I was really fed up with this kind of weather. I mean, it makes me feel sad and unhappy.
Fortunately on Friday the weather was much better, however it was cool and damp. I thought that it would become more settled over the weekend but on Saturday it was cold with freezing winds. My family and I definitely stayed at home as I had to do a lot homework that I couldn't do previously, such as cleaning clothes, ironing... I was feeling better, more positive and active. My children were playing with their friends at home.
Today, it's a lovely sunny morning without wind even I could say that It is like a pleasant, mild spring morning.Obviously we would like to go out and my children are going to the public park with their friends. So I'm feeling delighted. It'll be a fantastic day in Huercal Overa. Mercedes López
Last week, the weather was very changeable!! At the beginning, it was pouring down. For this reason, there were a lot of cities wich had been flooded. At the weekend, there were a few scattered showers. Because of this, I had to cancel my barbacue! It was a pity. I hope that it will improve this week Luis F Cano Santizo
During this winter the weather has not been very cold in the south-east of Spain. It has been cool. However in January the temperature has been five or six degrees but it has never been below zero. It has been drizzling and windy and although I feel pleased when it rains it affects me every day because I have to drive to go to my job and the pavement is very slippery for my car. It is really dangerous to drive while it is raining. Over the next few days the weather will continue being cold and there could be some showers. The rain could be heavy in some places and we could see some snow around 1000 metres. The rain will not affect me this weekend because I do not have to work so it will be good because it has not been raining during this winter and it is really necessary for our fields. So if you want to enjoy walking in the park or playing tennis you must wait to do it next week because perhaps the sunshine will come across the south-east. Take your umbrella to go out this weekend. If not you will get soaked!
It happened some years ago, I was studying in Almeria and I still didn´t know too much about the weather there, of course about the heat during summer, but not about the wind strength. And it´s something good to know, for sure. We were going for a walk along the street in one of those typical windy days there (I would call it a hurricane-like / gale-force windy day better)and it was really difficult even to walk, you felt yourself literally pushed by the wind. Anyway everything happened when we were coming back home; from a balcony above us fell, first a brick followed by a metal clothes horse...we could avoid them just for a second...nobody was hurt, thank goodness we were lucky, but of course we were scared. After that, I always stayed at home during these days or was just looking up the whole time if I needed to go out... Jose L. Rodriguez Gomez
No one could have imagined in that scorching summer morning what was going to happen for just fifteen minutes. We were quietly bathing in the pool at the campsite when we heard the first distant thunder. Suddenly the sun hid behind the clouds that were not previously in the sky. The first raindrops made everyone leave the pool, but what really made us run was the spectacular downpour which lasted some minutes. People protected themselves under the trees or in the tents. Deafening thunders began to be heard then, followed by lightnings which hit the ground. We were really scared. When the first lightning hit the pool (fortunately it was empty) was a chaos, everyone ran to shelter into their cars, which was the safest place. In spite of my fear I could not look away from the show, it was amazing. The rain stopped five minutes later and the sun came up again as if nothing had happened. It was an incredible shower but it did not rain again that summer.
I like the mild climate we have in the south east of Spain, although of course we sometimes have very bad weather in January and February: chilly at night even below zero, cold breeze with occasional periods of showers. That was what we had last week. As it usually happens, we do forget how cold it was last winter and it´s often said by the locals:" I´ve never seen such terrible weather in my life."
The weather was fantastic last week , it was mild and there was a pleasant breeze so, some friends thought: shall we go to Sierra Cabrera for a picnic on Sunday morning? It could be a great idea. There, we could go hiking and see plants and animals as, thyme, rosemary or maybe Greek tortoises which live in this area. The wheather forecast for last Sunday was clear skies, and bright sunshine, although, the temperature could be quite low. In the end, we decided to go to Mojacar. In the early morning we reached the summit and we spent a good time, but suddenly at midday the sky turned dark and twenty minutes later, it was pouring and there was a strong wind we couldn´t see anything. We hadn´t taken any umbrella or waterproof jacket, so when we came back home we were shivering and we got soaked, we had a cold shower, then we had a cup of hot chocolate, while we were watching a film on TV next to the fireplace. Fortunately, nobody caught a cold.
Last week, the weather was changeable. Monday and Tuesday were mild with a pleasant temperature, clear skies and bright sunshine. But in the middle of the week the weather changed completely, it was very cold, with strong winds and heavy rain. During those days I couldn't go to play golf and I just wanted to stay at home, switch on the heating and see cartoons with my daughter.
Last week the weather was incredibly cold and we didn´t see the sun for three or four days. So we were very sad. Normally in my town the sun is always shining and the temperature is mild. We aren´t used to not seeing the sun. I like the warm weather here, and I need to see the sun shining to be happy. Also last Thursday it started to rain so we had to cancel the paellas´ party where each group of students prepares paella or some kind of food and we can spend a different time with our pupils. It´s a beautiful day, but don´t worry, we´ll celebrate it next Friday!!. When the weather is freezing, I prefer to stay at home lying in the sofa in front of the stove, watching TV or playing with my friends, but of course without leaving home.
It had been pouring with rain for several days but yesterday was incredible, it was raining cats and dogs and I’ve never imagined what could happen. After an hour or so later, when I was working at school, someone warned me that water was coming into the ground floor through the doors, furthermore the water level was rising very fast. I then felt nervous although I needed to react quickly and help to evacuate as many children as fast as possible. About four hundred people had to be evacuated from the building. Fortunately it’s said that no one was hurt in the incident. Computers were undamaged, the only damage caused was in some furniture and radiators. In spite of this, the electrical system should be shut off, repaired if necessary and inspected by an electrician before it can be turned back on. The head teacher decided that the school doesn’t have to be opened today to organize and clean the school because the ground floor was full of mud. I’ll never forget that day, it was a stressful experience.
This winter, the weather is being better than last year. In 2010 some provinces of Andalusia were terribly flooded. I can remember the pictures on TV with hundreds of families who had to spent days in hotels or sports centers because heavy storms had destroyed their houses. In the North of Spain, this sort of situations aren´t as usual as in the south or East of the country. In this place the weather is damp and showers are very common. People usually go out with an umbrella in their handbag or hands to avoid getting soaked if the clouds appear. To my mind, it is easy to get used to living in Andalusia because the weather is usually nice along the whole year, that´s why a lot of foreign people move to Spain after their retirement to enjoy Spanish weather.
"The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain". I always remember these words from the famous film "My Fair Lady" when it rains in my homeland. But last week it's was absolutely true. Oh my God! It's was really pouring with rain! Last weekend was terrific ‘cos it was pretty warm, without clouds and bright sunshine. My friends and I took our bikes and went to the countryside (John wanted to surprise us and booked a country house). Of course we got fun all the weekend and we forgot all our worries: it was awesome!. But Monday started a little bad: a cold northern wind brought some clouds and in the afternoon the rain appeared and it started drizzling. I thought it won't be very important and I planed to go for a walk with Susan, my girlfriend. But unfortunately weather wanted that I changed my mind. Tuesday was awful: I missed the bus, so I had to take my umbrella and run as quickly as I could. I got soaked that morning and I also caught a cold. Damn it! That wasn't my plan. Susan texted me ‘cos she wanted to see a movie, but I was in bed drinking hot milk with honey and weeping (I really wanted to be with Susan!) I woke up with a terrible headache on Wednesday, turned on the radio and a male voice said that the river which goes across the downtown was swollen and many houses were flooded. And the rain was heavier than yesterday. It seemed to be the hell and all the people were really worried. Thank God the sun appeared on Thursday and the clouds started to disappear. At that moment I looked up and saw the rainbow. It was remarkable and colorful, just like a dream. I phoned Susan and said I wanted to see her; I missed her. So I went to the street and jumped in every puddle just like in the movie "Singing 'n the Rain". Later, having a cup of tea in a café, we decided to go to see the movies we coudn't see last Tuesday. What will happen next weekend? I don't know. You ought to wait and see it in my next post.
My town is next to the sea and the temperatures are mild in winter and hot in summer. Normally it doesn´t rain but when it does....it pours... I remember when I was a child, in 1989, there was a great flood. It was very cloudy. Suddenly it started raining heavily. One of the rivers (that usually hasn´t got water) overflowed, and carried with it everything that it could. In one of the residential areas the water was coming up to the second floor. In the sea we could see floating cars, washing machines... A lot of properties were seriously damaged and that day was really chaotic. ANA CARRILLO
This winter has been very cold. The last years haven’t been so freezing. I can stand either the heat or cold, but I prefer a mild climate. The damp time is perhaps the most unpleasant for me. When it’s drizzling or pouring with rain, I can´t go out. Well, last summer was really hot, some day was even scorching, but there is air conditioning in most of homes. Last summer we suffered a heat wave and this winter there is a cold spell. We are enjoying with all kind of weather... In spite of the weather being very bad, we are in the best place in Spain because the climate in this place is more pleasant. In spite of the fact that the drought continues being the dominant feature in this country, it has been raining and freezing recently.
Last Sunday it seemed to be a beautiful sunny day, but instead of being a settled, spring day, it became changeable and unpredictable. After having a good breakfast in my house terrace enjoying the bright sunshine and the warm breeze coming from the see, we decided to extend the marvellous morning with a long walk along the beach to end up at garrucha´s harbour. There, we had to meet other friends to continue enjoying the warm morning going around with our small boat. Suddenly, the sky got darker, after one hour with de last preparations and everybody inside the boat in the middle of the beach. The temperature was lower and the breeze changed to wind, drizzling lightly. We had just the time to go back to land avoiding the showers but even so, everybody got soaked and we finished the day shivering with a cup of hot chocolate looking through the window at the pouring rain outside.
We had been looking forward to these holidays for a couple of years, as we had been too busy at work to do it before. So we planned everything carefully as we didn't want anything to go wrong. Our destination was a quiet beach, where the weather was pleasant and hot, always with mild temperatures. But the first evening when we arrived it started to rain; at first we thought it was summer rain, which would last one night or so. But the next morning it changed and it turned into a thunderstorm, with very strong winds. The worst thing was that this situation lasted for five days and we couldn't go out during the whole week, not even go for a walk or lie on the beach; so we stayed at the hotel and watched a lot of TV. Everybody said that this situation had not happened in more than 40 years. The last day of our holidays the sun appeared again together with the heat. But we had to come back home...
